Do
you know anyone who lives in a "work-life
balance?" I can honestly say, I have
not achieved it. I certainly feel the intense
tug of war between self care and the demands on
my time. How do we meet those demands when
we feel drained and overdrawn on a regular basis?
Many of us try to
add another layer of pressure by trying to lose
weight on top of everything else. Diets
are stressful, and even though losing weight can
be a healthy form of self care, it is not
healthy when it is just another source of stress
in your over-stretched life.
Good news, bad news...Bad
news first. Stress counteracts your diet
efforts. Your body literally thinks it is
under attack. In its reactions to stress,
your body doesnt care what the source of stress
is, its job is to protect itself. That would
sound like a good thing, except that your body
is not designed to live as though it is constantly
under attack. Chronic stress (welcome to
America and what we do to ourselves) is compromising
your health, your energy and your efforts to diet.
Ready for the good
news? You can learn to manage your stress.
If you want to do more than run from activity
to activity and feel exhausted all the time -
you not only can, you must. If you want
to manage your weight and your health, you must
learn to handle your stress differently.
You have the ability
to step back, look at your life and assume control
of it. The best thing you can do for yourself
is to reach out to an objective strategic partner
that can help you reassemble the picture so that
your life works for you, not against you.
This is one way a Coach can help you that a friend
or relative cannot. You need someone whose
role is to listen objectively and collaborate
with you. Your loved ones will not be able
to do this for you without steering you towards
what they think you should do.
If the way you live
now is costing you your health, your peace, and
your contentment, it is not worth it. Even
if you feel the sacrifice is for others, if they
love you, they want you to take care of yourself
too.
You can start with
a mindset check. I can help you assess your
life and ensure your tank is full enough to care
for you first, and then even more powerfully for
those you love. We can also sharpen your
tools so your self care strategy keeps you filled
up for the journey.
